Chaplain endorsement
How endorsement works.
The training alone doesn’t guarantee endorsement. Chaplaincy Ministries always works through the pastor, and laity can become chaplains with their pastor’s approval.
1
Finish Level 1
Complete the Level 1 course and pass the final test. You’ll receive a certificate verifying your training.
2
Hold a license or credential
You need a Christian Ministry License or a UPCI Local, General or Ordination credential.
3
Get your pastor’s approval
If you aren’t the pastor of the church where you attend, a signed pastoral approval form is required.
4
Apply and be approved
Apply at upcchaplains.com. The $180 fee covers the application and your first year’s dues.
After you’re endorsed
Stay endorsed and grow.
Yearly renewal
- Renewal dues are $180 a year.
- Keep up your education through CEUs (Continuing Educational Units). Many field-related trainings count, such as hospital or police chaplain training.
- Every renewal needs a plan to keep training in the chaplain field.
- If you aren’t a pastor, you’ll need a pastoral approval form each year.
Earning rank
Most chaplains enter at the Associate level, unless they have verifiable advanced training or chaplain experience.
