Course Description:
Jeremy Painter and Jeff Brickle discuss the Psalms and Wisdom Literature, giving insights to essential meaning of the biblical text and its application to the Apostolic church today. The five books discussed in this course: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon are sometimes classified as the “Poetic Books,” or as the “Wisdom Literature.” Painter, the author of this textbook, points out, each of the 150 psalms could be thought of as “arising out of a search for, or celebration of, wisdom.”

Handbook on the Psalms and Wisdom LiteratureTextbook Description: Handbook on the Psalms and Wisdom Literature by Jeremy Painter

“Starting with his opening allegory on the often-difficult relationship between praise and pain, the author invites the reader to listen in on a life-changing conversation on the nature of wisdom—wisdom that is rooted in the fear of the Lord. From the pathos of Job’s struggle to the delight of true love played out across the pages of the Song of Solomon, this volume not only acquaints the reader with the surprisingly fresh voice of an ancient literary (and God-inspired) work, but does so in the context of a wide range of classic literature.

“Perhaps the hallmark of excellent writing about the Bible is that it reminds the reader of the depth and timelessness of the biblical text. This book is a rare treat; not only will you have a better understanding of the wisdom genre, but it will also capture your heart. And lasting change happens when the head and the heart are engaged. If you only acquire a small fraction of this volume’s message, you will be miles down the road toward wisdom. You will flourish like ‘a tree planted by the rivers of water’ (from the Editors’ Preface).
